Who am I?
“Art Should Comfort the Disturbed and disturb the comfortable” - cesar A. Cruz
The name Itadakimassacre (or TDMSK) came from a conversation I had with my friend about eating a lot of food. I thought it sounded cool so it stuck. “Itadakimasu” is a Japanese phrase said before a meal that shows gratitude for everyone and everything involved in making the food. I added the word massacre to the end. There really isn’t much else to it. Also, it’s really fun to say.
I am an illustrator and designer who likes to reflect on the horrors we live with. My illustrations are meant to provoke thoughts and create connections through bold expression. This is done through the dark themes my art explores in combination with harsh linework and stark contrast that goes against perfection. My main medium is the cheapest ballpoint pen at the dollar store, but I may also use India ink, acrylic, copics, and graphite. Additionally, I use my background in design and editing to enhance the details and create uniformity amongst all my pieces.
My experience with mental health and medical challenges influence a lot of my drawings. Art has always been a cathartic means of expression and storytelling since I was a child. Other inspirations for my art include popular media and artists such as Junji Ito and Jean-Michel Basquiat. I am honoured to be able to share my story through art markets, publications, and a membership with Dark Art Movement and Macabre Gallery.
My goal in life is to do things that are creative and meaningful, which I hope to achieve through art.
Other things about me: my favourite colour is pink, I’m learning bass guitar, and I love puns.
This is Dr. Skellington and he has a PhD in osteology. He’s two skulls fused into one because he represents a few things. The first being the acceptance of all the juxtapositions in life, such as horror and beauty, light and dark, and fear and comfort. The three eyes and one mouth represents being observant and reflective in silence. Lastly, he represents me being a goth who thinks bones are aesthetically pleasing.
